A grieving mother, Mrs. Bola Sulaimon, yesterday said that unknown people murdered her four-year-old daughter on Tuesday and sprinkled her blood on Ogun shrine at the Iwaya, Yaba area of Lagos State.
The girl, Faridat, was grabbed and killed while in the care of a woman identified Mama Hafsat. Faridat was instructed to stay in the house of Mama Hafsat, along with her other siblings, while her mother rushed down to the market. A few minutes later, Faridat’s elder siblings walked out. The girl was also said to have gone after them. It is believed that the killers were already around in the compound by the time Faridat walked out of Mama Hafsat’s home. The killers grabbed, killed and dumped her body in the shrine.
The remains of Faridat were discovered by Bola as she was walking pass the shrine to make ablution. Incidentally, the Ogun shrine is situated in the middle of the compound. When Bola saw the body, she realised it was that of Faridat. She noticed that the girl’s throat had been slit and her blood sprinkled all over the shrine.
According to her, when she returned from market, she didn’t even bother to look for her children. She thought they were still in the home of Mama Hafsat.
“When I was going to the market, I asked them to go to the Arabic school in the community.
After closing, they were supposed to attend lesson and then return to Mama Hafsat’s house. I asked them to wait there until I returned from the market.
“What I gathered when I came back from the market was that Faridat left Mummy Hafsat’s house where I told them to wait for me and came home, searching for her sister who had already gone out with some her friends in the community. “The ritual killers, who I still don’t know, must have waylaid my daughter in our compound.
They slit her throat and dumped her in the Ogun shrine. The shrine is in our compound. They have killed my daughter. They did not allow her to use her God-given destiny. Whoever killed Faridat will never know peace.”
The state Police Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said that 10 persons had been arrested in connection with Faridat’s murder. Owoseni, who described the incident as sad, added:
“It was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Iwaya Police Station, who alerted the command on the incident.
The bereaved parents of the girl came to the station with her corpse.
“When questioned, the parents explained that the child went with two of her siblings to Arabic school about 1p.m. and since then, she had not been seen. After a thorough search, her body, with a slit throat, was found behind her parents’ window, close to an Ogun shrine in the compound.
The corpse was recovered with the knife used to commit the murder.
“At least 10 persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of the girl. Investigation, however, revealed elements of conspiracy in the matter. We will continue to update members of the press as investigation continues.
We have deployed our men to the area, which is densely populated to prevent any form of jungle justice.”

Spanish striker Diego Costa has said he will not return to Chelsea and he “must return to Atletico Madrid”. Costa is currently in his native country Brazil and has threatened to remain there rather than return to London, and then leave on a free transfer.
Such a scenario is not acceptable to Chelsea, though, who want the player to return to training and put himself in contention for selection. Costa in a statement said: “My destination has already been decided. I must return to Atletico Madrid.
“It turns out that there is the impasse that Chelsea do not want to release me. But I believe that this situation will be resolved now on my return to Spain.” Concise News

The 28-year-old’s lawyer, Ricardo Cardoso, said last week his client intended to hand in a formal transfer request and is considering legal action against Chelsea in order to force through a move to former club Atletico.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has admitted that the federal government failed to fulfill some of the promises made to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Adamu said this while speaking with State House Correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council Meeting on Wednesday, two days after ASUU declared an indefinite nationwide strike effectively grounding activities in most universities across the country.
In embarking on the strike, ASUU accused the government of failing to fully implement the 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement and the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), among other things. The minister, who described the ongoing strike as sad, did not defend the government against the allegation.
“I must confess that government has not fulfilled its part of the bargain. Though we are unhappy that ASUU went on this strike without following due process and giving us good notice, we realised that we promised something and we didn’t fulfil it,” he said.
Although Adamu regrets the failure of the government to fulfil the promises made to ASUU, he is hopeful that an agreement can be reached with the union later today when he meets their leaders.
“I hope I will be meeting them later today or tomorrow and I am sure we will be able to reach some agreement so that the strike will be called off as soon as possible,” he said.
“I am sure you are aware of the issues we agreed on. There is the issue of renegotiation which is the only one they agreed government has done what it promised because we set up the renegotiation team and negotiation is already ongoing.”
The minister explained that the government failed to resolve the issue of Earned Allowances because of some miscommunications but gave assurances to “ASUU and the whole nation” that the matter would be resolved.
Speaking further, the minister said, “There is the issue of registration for Nigerian Universities Pension Commission. I think on that one, there are a few issues that need to be sorted out with the Nigerian Pension Commission. I believe there will be no problem with that.
“On the issue of their staff school, I think the court has given them verdict to go ahead with it. They have requested that they should be allowed to stay off TSA and I think the government will not do this.”

Real Madrid produced a dominant display in the Spanish Super Cup second leg to beat Barcelona 2-0 on the night and lift the trophy after a 5-1 aggregate win.
Madrid had defeated Barcelona 3-1 at the Nou Camp on Sunday in the first leg of the Super Cup despite controversial refereeing which led to the sending off of Cristiano Ronaldo.
At the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, Madrid did not waste time in establishing their dominance on the game when a long range shot by Asensio drifted into the net to give the home side a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the game. Marco Asensio followed up his brilliant goal in the first leg with another. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder was 30 yards out but had a go and it flew into the back of the net, Marc-Andre ter Stegen was rooted to the spot.
Benzema scored a super goal in the 39th minute of the game to make it 2-0 in the first half.
Marcelo had played in a low cross from the left, Karim Benzema flicks the ball up into the air with his first touch, spins Samuel Umtiti and slams the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Real Madrid supporters are planning a white-handkerchief protest during Wednesday’s Spanish Super Cup second leg at home against Barcelona.
The protest is against the five-match suspension handed to star man Cristiano Ronaldo in the first leg played on Saturday.
The group plans to display a banner at the Bernabeu to highlight the feeling that Madrid have been harmed by “scandalous” officiating, with the protest timed for when Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez, 33, enters the pitch ahead of what will be the Murcian referee’s first Clasico. The group’s president, Nabil Alturek, told radio show “El Larguero” that he had not spoken about the protest with club officials but other fan groups had said they would join in.
“We will see what happens, but it has a big media impact already. We have made a banner to show when the referees come out onto the pitch, and not just that but also packets of Kleenex, which we will be handing out,”Alturek said.
Ronaldo was shown a second yellow card late on in Madrid’s 3-1 win at the Camp Nou after referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea ruled he had dived to try to win a penalty.
The Portugal captain reacted by pushing the Basque official, earning an extra four-game suspension on top of the mandatory one-match ban for the sending off in a ruling from the Spanish federation’s presiding judge on Monday.

‘’I have done my own and I will continue to do my own. If I died yesterday at Wuse market, I would have gone to the creator fulfilled,’’ he told DAILY POST.
Narrating what transpired at the market, Charlyboy denied going to the market to protest, saying he only went there to pick up some items after they had concluded their Tuesday protest at the Unity Fountain.‘
”Like I said, I did not go to the market to protest, I went with a few of my guys to pick up an item and in the process, the same people who have been attacking us stormed the market in a bus, mobilized some thugs, particularly the almajiris to attack us.”
Narrating further, he said he would have been killed if not for the defence put up by one of his aides, who stopped one of the thugs from stabbing me with a dagger.
‘’I did not really care, I was just walking away and suddenly a man attacked me from behind with a dagger, in the process one of the guys came to my defense. When I was been taken away, they insisted on burning him alive.
